Neuro Lab

When we suspect a neurological disorder then neurodiagnostic  tests are ordered for proper diagnosis and prognosis. All these  are done in Neuro Electrophysiology Lab (NEURO LAB). All the tests mentioned below may be done in Neuro Lab or at bedside on Portable basis. Neuro Lab

NEURO LAB TESTS routinely done are:

a) Video Electroencephalogram VEEG to study the Electrical Brain functioning is a test that measures and records the electrical activity of brain, diagnose epilepsy and see what type of seizures are occurring & diagnose brain-death.

b) Nerve Conduction Study( NCS) & Electrmyography(EMG) to study the disorders of roots, plexus, nerves and muscles in body. Commonly diagnosed disorders are Carpal Tunnel syndrome, Peripheral Neuropathy, Mononeuritis multiplex, Myopathy, Polymyositis, Muscular Dystrophy, Cervical Radiculopathy,LumboSacral Radiculopathy, Brachial Plexopathy, Sciatic Mononeuropathy etc

c). Decremental Study / Repeatitive Nerve Stimulation study (RNS)  for diagnosis of Myaesthenia gravis and myaesthenic Syndrome.

d) Blink Reflex Study (BRS) to study the disorders of Facial Nerve, Trigeminal nerve and brain stem. Prognosis of recovery from Bells’s palsy can be determined.

e) Somato Sensory Evoked Potential (SSEP) ) to study the disorders of Brain, spinal cord and nerves; Can be done from Upper Limb and lower limbfor assesing the sensory conduction through spinal cord upto Somato-Sensory Cortex.

f) Sympathetic Skin Response (SSR) for the study of Spinal Sympathetic Systemintagrity. Helpful in assessment of  Spinal cord disorders and RSD.

g) Brain- Stem Auditory Evoked Response (BAER) to study the auditory nerve and brain stem and document Brain death. Helpful in diagnosis of Sensory Neural Deafness, Acoustic Nerve Tumors and Brainstem Functioning.

h) Visual Evoked Response (VEP) to study the optic nerve and visual cortex. Helpful in diagnosing Optic Neuritis,Retrobulbar Optic Neropathy.

i) P300 to evaluate the memory system. Usefual to discriminate Organic Dementia( Alzheimers Dementia / Vascular Dementia) from Pseudo Demantia.
